Kool Shen

31.10.08

Bruno Lopes, alias Kool Shen, born on February 9, 1967, is a rapper but also a b-boy (breaker) and French Writer (graffiter) of Portuguese roots, co-founder of NTM. He is one of the major figures of the French rap. His feather contributed to make NTM a clashing duet, contrasting with the rougher energy of its assistant Joey Starr. Melancholic person, lyric, sensitive and poetic, resolutely engaged in his texts, he is also a reference as regards flow hip-hop in language French, hypnotizing, fast, technical, funky. After having supported the Com8 mark of his partner of NTM, he launches his own mark of street-wear: 2 high. It left in spring 2004(19 April 2004) an album solo, Dernier Round (Better sale rap 2004), his first and last album before putting a term at its career as a rapper. On this album, Kool Shen pays homage to Lady V (who was his wife during 10 years) in the title "Un ange dans le ciel". It encounter a sharp success thanks to this hit, which was diffused much out of radio. Before drawing its reverence, the dark face of NTM, as it is even defined him, leaves a mini-album with a piece in featuring Rohff and Dadoo. After that, Kool Shen prefers to be devoted entirely to his label, IV My People as a producer, label which saw already being born from artists like Busta Flex, Serum, the first solos of experienced artists (Zoxea), or American Toy and lately, the Specialists. The album was the best sale of rap of the year 2004 (230,000 sold specimens). His rap, physical, in the past much faster, explosive and ambitious, seems to have decreased on his last album. He gave his concert of goodbye to the Zenith of Paris, April 22, 2005. He however continues to make featurings on the albums of other rappeurs. A new opus of Kool Shen, reconsidered its decision to take its retirement as a rapper, should be born in 2008.
